Hi beautiful readers,
It's time for me to share one of my
favorite cities in Italy. This year in June, I was lucky enough to visit
Naples in southern Italy and let me tell you, this place is different
than any other places I have ever been to. A thousand words couldn't
describe the beauty, the vibe of that city. The people are like no
other. It's simply breathtaking!
The View
- Mount Vesuvius
- Naples, Italy
- Mount Vesuvius, Naples, Italy
- Napoli, Italia
These
pictures were taken on the favorite "Balcony of Naples." In the first
picture you can see Mount Vesuvius, one of two of Italy's active
volcanoes. Can you imagine waking up every morning to the scent of salty
water and this view? - I know, I can too. "Il balcone di Napoli" is a
platform that is frequently visited by tourists from all over the world
to get the most positively overwhelming view of the city. This
sightseeing spot is also used by locals to take wedding photos, so if
you find yourself visiting Naples on a weekend, don't be alarmed by loud
Italian couples and brides that take a ridiculous amount of selfies.
Let's not kid ourselves, we probably would do the same in a white dress
and this spectacular view in the background. Obviously, any beachy
location has its charm, because let's face it, there's nothing better as
far as scenery is concerned than taking pictures of the ocean or the
sea. In Naples I was more fascinated with the city. The colorful
architecture, the narrow roads. The second picture looks like a
postcard, but I can promise you this much, it is exactly what you will
see before filters, Photoshop and all of the great enhancements
photography has to offer these days. If you are planning a trip to
Naples at some point, make sure to not miss out on this view.
The Food
- Ristorante Ciro Borgo Marinari
- Little fishermen boats at the Borgo Marinari
My first Neapolitan dinner was at
Ristorante Ciro Borgo Marinari.
Get ready to enjoy a very unique and creative sea food adventure. Since
the restaurant is directly on the water, you don't only taste yummy
seafood and the richness in aromas but you also get to breathe real
Mediterranean air. Be prepared to wait quite a bit before you get seated
and before the food arrives - this location is very busy. However, the
cuisine and the service are well worth it. I guarantee that you will not
eat this way a lot of times in your life, so take it all in and enjoy
it.
It is a very romantic spot for couples but it is also
family-friendly as well as a great restaurant to eat at with friends and
co-workers. The occasion doesn't really matter as long as you're
willing to pay a decent amount of money for incredible food. IF you are
planning a more amorous trip to Bella Italia, you will definitely like
the major location bonus this restaurant has to offer. Located right on
the Borgo Marinari, which is a little "island" solely connected to the
mainland via an artificial neck, if you are lucky and you get there in
time, you will be seated at a table that overlooks the water and the
little fishermen boats.
- Trattoria Nennella, Napoli, Italy
One of the most eventful dinners in Naples can be found in a traditional Neapolitan "trattoria" named
"Trattoria Nennella".
This restaurant is located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Naples
known as "Quartieri Spagnoli". You might have seen various pictures
taken in this neighborhood without knowing the name. If you have seen
pictures of narrow streets in Naples with laundry hanging across
balconies, this is the neighborhood we are talking about.
- Quartieri Spagnoli - Naples, Italy
Now,
if you're not Italian OR if you don't understand the Neapolitan
dialect, the only thing you will notice at "Nennella" is that Italians,
especially Neapolitans are obnoxiously loud and like to dance and sing
while eating. Should you have the luxury to understand what they're
actually saying, you will quickly realize that the waiters and the owner
of this place will call you names and the dinner is accompanied by
insults - ON PURPOSE. "Trattoria Nennella" is known for the friendly,
very family-like atmosphere and the objective of your dinner here is to
feel just like at home, where you also might catch an insult every once
in a while. If you are rather sensitive to random strangers insulting
you or dumping a spoon full of Parmiggiano on your lap, I would not
recommend this place. If you're in for a good time though and you want
to see some authentic Neapolitan action, pay this spot a visit. It's
worth it.
Posillipo
Last
but not least, I want to talk about my favorite residential quarter of
Naples: Posillipo. This is where the beautiful and rich of Naples live
(is this the reason why I loved it there?) and you can tell once you see
the beautiful properties overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Posillipo
offers a few smaller hotels that welcome tourists and would like to
visit Naples, but don't want to be sucked up by the hectic lifestyle
downtown. Don't forget, Posillipo is only a 20 minute drive away from
the center and still offers everything your little heart may desire and
more.
There's obviously no way for me to summarize everything I
saw in Naples. Furthermore, I only saw a fraction of the city and
seriously need to go back in order to see more, taste more, and take
more pictures. I hope that you enjoyed taking a sneak peek at the most
beautiful city in Italy. Have you ever been to Naples? Are you planning
on going? What spots or sights would you recommend? Leave a
comment/recommendation in the comment section - I can't wait!
xx
Sam
